Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Mining, Industrial Metals & Mining and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.73%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were St. James’s Place PLC (LON:SJP), which rose 2.58% or 29.00 points to trade at 1154.50 at the close. International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) added 1.86% or 11.20 points to end at 614.60 and Shire PLC (LON:SHP) was up 1.80% or 55.00 points to 3109.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Travis Perkins PLC (LON:TPK), which lost 10.45% or 150.00 points to trade at 1285.00 in late trade. ITV PLC (LON:ITV) declined 7.62% or 13.20 points to end at 160.00 and Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML) shed 4.56% or 88.00 points to 1843.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1242 to 709 and 148 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.19% or 2.50 to $1321.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 1.19% or 0.75 to hit $62.26 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.43% or 0.95 to trade at $65.57 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.86% to 1.3790, while EUR/GBP rose 0.70% to 0.8857.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.18% at 90.47.
