Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Pharmaceuticals & Biotech sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.70%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Johnson Matthey PLC (LON:JMAT), which rose 11.41% or 215.00 points to trade at 2,100.00 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) added 3.85% or 25.40 points to end at 684.60 and Segro Plc (LON:SGRO) was up 1.48% or 15.00 points to 1,031.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Abrdn PLC (LON:ABDN), which lost 5.02% or 8.15 points to trade at 154.15 in late trade. Mondi PLC (LON:MNDI) declined 4.20% or 62.50 points to end at 1,427.00 and International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) shed 4.02% or 4.44 points to 105.98.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1206 to 560 and 495 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.79% or 13.65 to $1,738.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.08% or 0.08 to hit $95.92 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.26% or 0.26 to trade at $99.23 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.40% to 1.19, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.11% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.34% at 107.55.
