Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Electronic & Electrical Equipment and Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.70%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Just Eat (LON:JE), which rose 2.79% or 17.40 points to trade at 642.20 at the close. J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY) added 2.39% or 4.80 points to end at 205.30 and Tui AG (LON:TUIT) was up 1.36% or 10.80 points to 802.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO), which lost 3.83% or 188.00 points to trade at 4723.50 in late trade. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) declined 2.92% or 26.60 points to end at 882.80 and Experian PLC (LON:EXPN) shed 2.92% or 71.00 points to 2365.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1303 to 829 and 235 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 1.41% or 20.00 to $1400.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.24% or 0.14 to hit $57.48 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.75% or 1.11 to trade at $64.41 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.48% to 1.2516, while EUR/GBP fell 0.04% to 0.8964.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.60% at 96.907.
