Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Pharmaceuticals & Biotech, Healthcare Equipment & Services and Food Producers sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.66%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN), which rose 6.44% or 14.30 points to trade at 236.20 at the close. Direct Line Insurance Group PLC (LON:DLGD) added 3.31% or 11.60 points to end at 362.60 and Aviva PLC (LON:AV) was up 1.90% or 8.500 points to 455.700 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW), which lost 2.71% or 4.00 points to trade at 143.70 in late trade. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) declined 2.65% or 20.50 points to end at 754.00 and Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) shed 2.54% or 8.70 points to 333.30.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1506 to 808 and 415 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.09% or 1.15 to $1254.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 1.26% or 0.64 to hit $50.15 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.95% or 0.50 to trade at $51.91 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.68% to 1.2206, while EUR/GBP fell 0.97% to 0.9030.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.20% at 97.92.
