Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Construction & Materials and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.65%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were WPP PLC (LON:WPP), which rose 6.47% or 40.40 points to trade at 664.40 at the close. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) added 5.16% or 50.0 points to end at 1019.0 and International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) was up 4.85% or 10.00 points to 216.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN), which lost 2.90% or 78.0 points to trade at 2612.0 in late trade. Johnson Matthey PLC (LON:JMAT) declined 2.75% or 67.0 points to end at 2374.0 and CRH PLC (LON:CRH) shed 2.57% or 76.0 points to 2877.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1180 to 947 and 165 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.21% or 23.65 to $1928.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 1.47% or 0.64 to hit $42.75 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 1.56% or 0.72 to trade at $45.44 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.14% to 1.3190, while EUR/GBP fell 0.02% to 0.8952.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 93.100.
