Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Industrial Transportation, Industrial Metals & Mining and Insurance sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.65%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU), which rose 2.84% or 24.60 points to trade at 890.00 at the close. Micro Focus International PLC (LON:MCRO) added 2.83% or 31.00 points to end at 1127.60 and Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT) was up 1.95% or 44.00 points to 2297.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hiscox Ltd (LON:HSX), which lost 5.18% or 83.00 points to trade at 1518.00 in late trade. NMC Health PLC (LON:NMC) declined 4.14% or 111.00 points to end at 2569.00 and London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LON:LSE) shed 2.75% or 198.00 points to 7010.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1052 to 1049 and 225 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.60% or 8.95 to $1492.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 1.34% or 0.71 to hit $53.52 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.34% or 0.79 to trade at $59.53 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.52% to 1.2853, while EUR/GBP fell 0.05% to 0.8620.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.35% at 97.662.
