Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Industrial Transportation, Healthcare Equipment & Services and Chemicals sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.57%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which rose 3.71% or 10.30 points to trade at 287.80 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) added 2.64% or 23.40 points to end at 908.60 and Associated British Foods PLC (LON:ABF) was up 2.33% or 45.5 points to 1996.5 in late trade.
Biggest losers included EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ), which lost 6.57% or 46.20 points to trade at 656.80 in late trade. WPP PLC (LON:WPP) declined 5.35% or 33.40 points to end at 591.40 and Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON) shed 4.08% or 4.85 points to 114.10.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1390 to 748 and 141 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.71% or 12.85 to $1822.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.81% or 0.33 to hit $40.95 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.58% or 0.25 to trade at $43.33 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.52% to 1.2606, while EUR/GBP rose 0.11% to 0.8994.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.45% at 96.407.
