Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Tobacco, Pharmaceuticals & Biotech and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.55%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS), which rose 15.69% or 57.80 points to trade at 426.20 at the close. Mondi PLC (LON:MNDI) added 3.59% or 53.00 points to end at 1,531.00 and Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) was up 2.10% or 5.90 points to 286.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY), which lost 6.45% or 62.00 points to trade at 899.80 in late trade. GSK plc (LON:GSK) declined 4.60% or 73.50 points to end at 1,526.00 and Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) shed 3.30% or 24.60 points to 722.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1001 to 789 and 712 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.09% or 25.10 to $2,338.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.51% or 0.41 to hit $81.31 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.40% or 0.34 to trade at $84.81 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.27% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.00% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.15% at 105.56.
