Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Aerospace & Defense, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.55%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS), which rose 2.80% or 12.60 points to trade at 462.30 at the close. Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) added 2.39% or 76.0 points to end at 3260.0 and Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC (LON:RKT) was up 2.17% or 124.0 points to 5844.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Meggitt PLC (LON:MGGT), which lost 12.08% or 101.40 points to trade at 737.80 in late trade. Berkeley Group Holdings PLC (LON:BKGH) declined 2.96% or 142.0 points to end at 4658.0 and Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) shed 2.58% or 52.00 points to 1965.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1168 to 799 and 481 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.97% or 36.15 to $1797.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 1.54% or 1.07 to hit $68.22 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.79% or 0.57 to trade at $71.65 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.35% to 1.3786, while EUR/GBP rose 0.17% to 0.8591.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.50% at 92.493.
