Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Tobacco, Gas, Water & Multiutilities and Automobiles & Parts sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.54%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were BP PLC (LON:BP), which rose 3.07% or 16.20 points to trade at 543.20 at the close. Micro Focus International PLC (LON:MCRO) added 2.09% or 36.00 points to end at 1756.80 and Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) was up 1.26% or 2.20 points to 176.55 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Centrica PLC (LON:CNA), which lost 19.00% or 17.26 points to trade at 73.58 in late trade. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 17.75% or 141.00 points to end at 653.60 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) shed 5.58% or 55.90 points to 945.60.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1472 to 680 and 198 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.64% or 9.05 to $1429.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.00% or 0.57 to hit $57.44 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.99% or 0.63 to trade at $64.25 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.41% to 1.2167, while EUR/GBP rose 0.49% to 0.9164.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 97.843.
