Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Food Producers and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.54%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW), which rose 5.64% or 8.75 points to trade at 164.00 at the close. Capita PLC (LON:CPI) added 5.52% or 6.20 points to end at 118.60 and Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) was up 5.41% or 119.00 points to 2320.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Pearson PLC (LON:PSON), which lost 5.98% or 58.40 points to trade at 918.20 in late trade. Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC (LON:RB) declined 4.19% or 262.00 points to end at 5990.00 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) shed 2.96% or 27.20 points to 892.20.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1158 to 933 and 283 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.49% or 6.35 to $1294.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.23% or 0.12 to hit $51.99 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.30% or 0.18 to trade at $60.82 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.01% to 1.2856, while EUR/GBP fell 0.02% to 0.8871.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 95.645.
