Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Banking, Household Goods & Home Construction and Mobile Telecommunications sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.50%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Merlin Entertainments PLC (LON:MERL), which rose 2.10% or 9.60 points to trade at 467.00 at the close. Paddy Power Betfair PLC (LON:PPB) added 2.01% or 140.00 points to end at 7110.00 and Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT) was up 1.11% or 25.00 points to 2275.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Provident Financial (LON:PFG), which lost 6.54% or 56.00 points to trade at 800.00 in late trade. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) declined 3.55% or 190.00 points to end at 5165.00 and Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC (LON:RB) shed 2.72% or 198.00 points to 7092.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1038 to 914 and 453 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.94% or 12.48 to $1342.88 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 3.34% or 1.58 to hit $48.87 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 2.24% or 1.17 to trade at $53.51 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.79% to 1.3031, while EUR/GBP fell 0.58% to 0.9149.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.37% at 92.23.
