Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Healthcare Equipment & Services, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.50%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS), which rose 2.35% or 140.00 points to trade at 6108.00 at the close. Tui AG (LON:TUIT) added 1.44% or 24.50 points to end at 1723.00 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) was up 1.29% or 16.50 points to 1296.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Smith & Nephew PLC (LON:SN), which lost 7.00% or 98.00 points to trade at 1302.50 in late trade. BT Group PLC (LON:BT) declined 4.17% or 10.10 points to end at 232.15 and Kingfisher PLC (LON:KGF) shed 4.06% or 11.80 points to 278.80.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1131 to 780 and 326 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.64% or 8.40 to $1314.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.15% or 0.10 to hit $67.83 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.01% or 0.01 to trade at $73.35 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.08% to 1.3565, while EUR/GBP rose 0.26% to 0.8828.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.25% at 92.36.
