Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Mobile Telecommunications and Tobacco sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.48%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Travis Perkins PLC (LON:TPK), which rose 12.52% or 159.00 points to trade at 1429.00 at the close. Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) added 3.57% or 5.68 points to end at 164.90 and Next PLC (LON:NXT) was up 3.46% or 174.00 points to 5200.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 8.34% or 81.40 points to trade at 894.60 in late trade. Babcock International Group PLC (LON:BAB) declined 4.61% or 26.60 points to end at 550.00 and International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) shed 4.34% or 28.00 points to 617.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1119 to 949 and 311 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.08% or 1.05 to $1328.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.04% or 0.02 to hit $55.50 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.57% or 0.37 to trade at $65.28 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 1.14% to 1.3244, while EUR/GBP fell 0.95% to 0.8589.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.23% at 96.047.
