Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, Tobacco and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.46%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Paddy Power Betfair PLC (LON:PPB), which rose 4.29% or 278.00 points to trade at 6766.00 at the close. J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY) added 3.91% or 8.70 points to end at 231.20 and London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LON:LSE) was up 3.43% or 172.00 points to 5186.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Micro Focus International PLC (LON:MCRO), which lost 5.07% or 98.20 points to trade at 1839.60 in late trade. Intu Properties PLC (LON:INTUP) declined 3.16% or 2.98 points to end at 91.30 and Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) shed 2.45% or 3.55 points to 141.55.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 774 to 690 and 334 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.21% or 2.65 to $1283.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.06% or 0.68 to hit $63.23 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.47% or 0.34 to trade at $71.72 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.40% to 1.3083, while EUR/GBP fell 0.08% to 0.8595.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.19% at 97.018.
