Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Insurance, Mobile Telecommunications and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.46%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS), which rose 3.61% or 190.00 points to trade at 5450.00 at the close. Micro Focus International PLC (LON:MCRO) added 3.10% or 43.00 points to end at 1429.50 and Next PLC (LON:NXT) was up 3.04% or 162.00 points to 5494.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included RSA Insurance Group PLC (LON:RSA), which lost 9.31% or 59.00 points to trade at 575.00 in late trade. Travis Perkins PLC (LON:TPK) declined 3.92% or 43.50 points to end at 1065.50 and Provident Financial PLC (LON:PFG) shed 3.45% or 21.60 points to 604.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1187 to 857 and 342 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.79% or 9.40 to $1196.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 1.80% or 1.30 to hit $73.42 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 2.05% or 1.67 to trade at $83.05 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.15% to 1.3058, while EUR/GBP rose 0.01% to 0.8902.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 94.62.
