Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Beverage, Household Goods & Home Construction and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.43%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Shell PLC (LON:SHEL), which rose 1.56% or 39.50 points to trade at 2,566.50 at the close. BP PLC (LON:BP) added 1.19% or 4.80 points to end at 407.95 and Pershing Square Holdings Ltd (LON:PSHP) was up 1.15% or 46.00 points to 4,034.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Diageo PLC (LON:DGE), which lost 3.89% or 99.00 points to trade at 2,448.50 in late trade. Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) declined 3.76% or 44.50 points to end at 1,139.50 and Barratt Redrow PLC (LON:BTRW) shed 3.24% or 14.10 points to 420.50.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 939 to 816 and 658 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.52% or 13.79 to $2,655.21 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.23% or 0.90 to hit $74.03 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.78% or 0.59 to trade at $76.52 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.37% to 1.24, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.01% to 0.83.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.40% at 108.77.
