Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Oil & Gas Producers and General Retailers sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.41%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 2.42% or 20.60 points to trade at 873.40 at the close. International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) added 2.13% or 3.48 points to end at 166.82 and Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) was up 2.03% or 31.0 points to 1555.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Coca Cola HBC AG (LON:CCH), which lost 3.80% or 99.0 points to trade at 2506.0 in late trade. Next PLC (LON:NXT) declined 3.32% or 276.0 points to end at 8036.0 and BP PLC (LON:BP) shed 2.88% or 9.95 points to 335.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1273 to 1061 and 73 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.48% or 26.55 to $1762.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 3.77% or 3.16 to hit $80.75 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 3.20% or 2.71 to trade at $82.01 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.35% to 1.3661, while EUR/GBP fell 0.28% to 0.8477.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 94.067.
