Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Tobacco and Software & Computer Services sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.41%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC (LON:RB), which rose 1.31% or 79.00 points to trade at 6120.00 at the close. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) added 1.30% or 11.90 points to end at 927.00 and United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) was up 1.15% or 9.60 points to 847.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW), which lost 5.36% or 10.30 points to trade at 181.95 in late trade. Legal & General Group PLC (LON:LGEN) declined 4.94% or 14.30 points to end at 275.20 and J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY) shed 4.68% or 10.60 points to 216.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1177 to 863 and 339 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.04% or 0.55 to $1279.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.17% or 0.11 to hit $65.78 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.46% or 0.34 to trade at $74.91 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.00% to 1.2900, while EUR/GBP fell 0.10% to 0.8633.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 97.860.
