Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Mining, Oil & Gas Producers and Chemicals sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.38%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were National Grid PLC (LON:NG), which rose 2.91% or 25.80 points to trade at 911.80 at the close. Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON) added 2.44% or 15.00 points to end at 629.20 and Halma PLC (LON:HLMA) was up 2.23% or 50.00 points to 2,290.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 7.79% or 48.00 points to trade at 568.50 in late trade. Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) declined 7.58% or 29.00 points to end at 353.70 and Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) shed 5.31% or 41.20 points to 735.20.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1161 to 685 and 662 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.93% or 21.95 to $2,347.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 1.56% or 1.16 to hit $73.06 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 1.44% or 1.13 to trade at $77.23 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.13% to 1.28, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.07% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 104.10.
