Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Tobacco, Automobiles & Parts and Travel & Leisure sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.38%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Spirax-Sarco Engineering PLC (LON:SPX), which rose 2.43% or 290.0 points to trade at 12240.0 at the close. GMK Norilskiy Nikel PAO DRC (LON:NKELyq) added 2.01% or 0.62 points to end at 31.50 and Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) was up 1.88% or 3.50 points to 190.05 in late trade.
Biggest losers included British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS), which lost 2.54% or 72.5 points to trade at 2786.0 in late trade. NK Rosneft PAO DRC (LON:ROSNq) declined 2.37% or 0.17 points to end at 6.92 and BAE Systems PLC (LON:BAES) shed 2.24% or 11.80 points to 515.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1142 to 1112 and 224 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.74% or 12.95 to $1745.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.39% or 0.23 to hit $59.37 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.36% or 0.23 to trade at $62.97 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.04% to 1.3727, while EUR/GBP fell 0.08% to 0.8665.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.15% at 92.205.
