Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Mobile Telecommunications and Software & Computer Services sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.37%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which rose 5.44% or 46.40 points to trade at 900.00 at the close. Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) added 3.13% or 18.80 points to end at 619.00 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) was up 1.49% or 15.00 points to 1022.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Provident Financial (LON:PFG), which lost 13.06% or 105.00 points to trade at 699.00 in late trade. Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY) declined 9.30% or 166.00 points to end at 1619.00 and Informa Plc (LON:INF) shed 5.67% or 42.40 points to 705.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1182 to 828 and 145 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.18% or 2.40 to $1334.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.28% or 0.18 to hit $63.91 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.22% or 0.15 to trade at $69.30 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.26% to 1.3829, while EUR/GBP fell 0.48% to 0.8845.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 90.35.
