Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Construction & Materials, Industrial Engineering and Aerospace & Defense sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.36%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Pearson PLC (LON:PSON), which rose 3.78% or 31.60 points to trade at 867.00 at the close. Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) added 3.20% or 194.00 points to end at 6258.00 and Diageo PLC (LON:DGE) was up 2.16% or 55.50 points to 2624.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM), which lost 9.21% or 36.30 points to trade at 357.70 in late trade. Capita PLC (LON:CPI) declined 6.07% or 8.00 points to end at 123.75 and CRH PLC (LON:CRH) shed 4.10% or 95.00 points to 2222.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1095 to 942 and 308 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.43% or 5.30 to $1232.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.80% or 0.56 to hit $69.19 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.75% or 0.60 to trade at $79.45 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.43% to 1.3059, while EUR/GBP rose 0.27% to 0.8794.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.14% at 95.48.
