Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Industrial Metals & Mining and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.35%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 2.89% or 19.20 points to trade at 684.40 at the close. SSE PLC (LON:SSE) added 2.60% or 28.50 points to end at 1124.00 and Berkeley Group Holdings PLC (LON:BKGH) was up 2.56% or 99.00 points to 3969.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included NMC Health PLC (LON:NMC), which lost 6.05% or 139.00 points to trade at 2157.00 in late trade. Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) declined 2.63% or 5.05 points to end at 186.70 and Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust PLC (LON:SMT) shed 1.92% or 10.00 points to 511.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1243 to 829 and 209 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.85% or 27.85 to $1536.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 3.34% or 1.85 to hit $53.50 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 2.09% or 1.25 to trade at $58.67 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.20% to 1.2275, while EUR/GBP rose 0.39% to 0.9075.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.47% at 97.605.
