Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Pharmaceuticals & Biotech, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Food Producers sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.34%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD), which rose 4.82% or 5.42 points to trade at 117.92 at the close. Land Securities Group PLC (LON:LAND) added 3.69% or 26.20 points to end at 736.40 and British Land Company PLC (LON:BLND) was up 3.09% or 16.00 points to 533.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included AstraZeneca PLC (LON:AZN), which lost 4.08% or 366.0 points to trade at 8602.0 in late trade. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) declined 2.84% or 42.6 points to end at 1459.4 and Sage Group PLC (LON:SGE) shed 2.70% or 20.20 points to 729.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1111 to 866 and 462 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.51% or 9.60 to $1857.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.49% or 0.39 to hit $80.14 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.82% or 0.67 to trade at $82.72 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.06% to 1.3426, while EUR/GBP fell 0.40% to 0.8435.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.46% at 95.847.
