Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Pharmaceuticals & Biotech and Electrical sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.27%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Legal & General Group PLC (LON:LGEN), which rose 6.01% or 13.40 points to trade at 236.30 at the close. Vistry Group PLC (LON:VTYV) added 4.86% or 30.50 points to end at 658.50 and International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) was up 4.05% or 10.70 points to 275.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included AstraZeneca PLC (LON:AZN), which lost 2.87% or 310.00 points to trade at 10,480.00 in late trade. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) declined 2.47% or 63.50 points to end at 2,507.50 and National Grid PLC (LON:NG) shed 1.52% or 15.00 points to 975.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1096 to 698 and 642 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.27% or 7.14 to $2,675.04 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.96% or 0.67 to hit $69.27 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.83% or 0.61 to trade at $73.01 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.36% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.11% to 0.83.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.19% at 106.14.
