Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Forestry & Paper, Automobiles & Parts and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.27%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which rose 1.78% or 34.00 points to trade at 1943.00 at the close. GlaxoSmithKline PLC (LON:GSK) added 1.26% or 21.8 points to end at 1750.2 and Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC (LON:RB) was up 0.96% or 57.00 points to 5999.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT), which lost 6.17% or 146.00 points to trade at 2220.00 in late trade. Micro Focus International PLC (LON:MCRO) declined 4.30% or 47.40 points to end at 1055.40 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) shed 3.31% or 24.00 points to 701.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1377 to 737 and 217 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.19% or 2.85 to $1467.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.25% or 0.15 to hit $59.17 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.09% or 0.06 to trade at $64.31 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.32% to 1.3186, while EUR/GBP fell 0.06% to 0.8409.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.15% at 97.465.
