Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Forestry & Paper, Tobacco and Aerospace & Defense sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.24%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN), which rose 4.43% or 90.00 points to trade at 2120.00 at the close. Kingfisher PLC (LON:KGF) added 3.64% or 7.10 points to end at 202.00 and Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY) was up 3.33% or 71.00 points to 2203.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS), which lost 3.79% or 13.60 points to trade at 345.10 in late trade. Mondi PLC (LON:MNDI) declined 2.56% or 41.50 points to end at 1582.00 and Unilever PLC (LON:ULVR) shed 2.54% or 125.00 points to 4795.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1146 to 961 and 202 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.45% or 6.85 to $1513.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.57% or 0.33 to hit $58.52 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.51% or 0.33 to trade at $64.73 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.34% to 1.2482, while EUR/GBP rose 0.08% to 0.8821.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.34% at 98.178.
