Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Software & Computer Services, Tobacco and Insurance sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.20%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Smith & Nephew PLC (LON:SN), which rose 7.26% or 134.00 points to trade at 1979.00 at the close. Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) added 4.11% or 3.08 points to end at 78.00 and DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS) was up 3.36% or 11.80 points to 362.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB), which lost 7.32% or 135.00 points to trade at 1709.00 in late trade. Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY) declined 4.62% or 93.0 points to end at 1920.0 and Samsung Electronics Co Ltd DRC (LON:0593xq) shed 4.16% or 53.00 points to 1221.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1083 to 1045 and 226 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.52% or 8.45 to $1620.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.97% or 0.52 to hit $54.01 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.61% or 0.36 to trade at $59.48 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.30% to 1.2880, while EUR/GBP rose 0.23% to 0.8379.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.16% at 99.752.
