Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Household Goods & Home Construction and Gas, Water & Multiutilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.16%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 2.88% or 21.50 points to trade at 769.00 at the close. Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON) added 2.00% or 8.80 points to end at 448.50 and InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (LON:IHG) was up 1.73% or 148.00 points to 8,714.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML), which lost 1.96% or 53.00 points to trade at 2,645.00 in late trade. Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) declined 1.81% or 29.50 points to end at 1,601.00 and Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) shed 1.72% or 2.75 points to 157.60.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1046 to 753 and 659 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.55% or 14.95 to $2,753.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 2.74% or 1.92 to hit $71.96 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 2.54% or 1.89 to trade at $76.18 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.12% to 1.30, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.04% to 0.83.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 103.90.
