Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Forestry & Paper, Food & Drug Retailers and General Retailers sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.16%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG), which rose 4.63% or 29.40 points to trade at 664.00 at the close. EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) added 4.21% or 60.50 points to end at 1499.00 and Just Eat (LON:JE) was up 1.92% or 17.00 points to 901.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Kingfisher PLC (LON:KGF), which lost 3.26% or 7.10 points to trade at 210.40 in late trade. Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV) declined 2.56% or 48.50 points to end at 1844.50 and Micro Focus International PLC (LON:MCRO) shed 2.48% or 27.20 points to 1070.60.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1083 to 1053 and 226 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.34% or 5.35 to $1559.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.55% or 0.33 to hit $59.23 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.26% or 0.17 to trade at $65.20 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.03% to 1.3061, while EUR/GBP rose 0.21% to 0.8515.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.10% at 97.065.
