Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.14%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were WPP PLC (LON:WPP), which rose 5.41% or 49.00 points to trade at 955.00 at the close. Royal Mail PLC (LON:RMG) added 2.33% or 5.80 points to end at 254.30 and Merlin Entertainments PLC (LON:MERL) was up 2.32% or 8.50 points to 375.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS), which lost 4.00% or 10.00 points to trade at 240.00 in late trade. Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) declined 3.30% or 10.60 points to end at 310.85 and BP PLC (LON:BP) shed 2.32% or 13.20 points to 556.10.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1114 to 904 and 353 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.81% or 10.35 to $1290.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 3.73% or 2.43 to hit $62.78 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 3.78% or 2.81 to trade at $71.54 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.27% to 1.2932, while EUR/GBP rose 0.06% to 0.8632.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.27% at 97.655.
