Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Mobile Telecommunications, Pharmaceuticals & Biotech and Insurance sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.13%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 6.14% or 54.80 points to trade at 946.80 at the close. Intu Properties PLC (LON:INTUP) added 4.87% or 5.20 points to end at 112.00 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) was up 4.05% or 72.60 points to 1865.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD), which lost 4.89% or 7.04 points to trade at 137.00 in late trade. InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (LON:IHG) declined 2.87% or 126.00 points to end at 4257.50 and Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT) shed 2.58% or 51.00 points to 1925.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1229 to 810 and 319 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.39% or 17.85 to $1297.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.79% or 0.42 to hit $53.55 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.59% or 0.36 to trade at $61.45 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.78% to 1.3166, while EUR/GBP rose 0.14% to 0.8663.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.76% at 95.562.
