Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Pharmaceuticals & Biotech, Electronic & Electrical Equipment and Construction & Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.08%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which rose 4.74% or 53.00 points to trade at 1172.00 at the close. Micro Focus International (LON:MCRO) added 3.17% or 69.00 points to end at 2243.00 and Pearson PLC (LON:PSON) was up 2.31% or 14.00 points to 619.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Provident Financial (LON:PFG), which lost 5.78% or 107.00 points to trade at 1745.00 in late trade. Shire PLC (LON:SHP) declined 4.02% or 151.50 points to end at 3613.00 and St. James’s Place PLC (LON:SJP) shed 1.35% or 16.00 points to 1173.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 994 to 895 and 476 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.34% or 4.43 to $1296.03 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 1.77% or 0.86 to hit $47.80 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.84% or 0.97 to trade at $51.75 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.19% to 1.2902, while EUR/GBP rose 0.26% to 0.9157.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.36% at 93.02.
