Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, Software & Computer Services and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.07%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Smurfit Kappa Group PLC (LON:SKG), which rose 3.00% or 74.00 points to trade at 2540.00 at the close. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) added 1.79% or 15.20 points to end at 863.20 and Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust PLC (LON:SMT) was up 1.73% or 9.50 points to 558.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Micro Focus International PLC (LON:MCRO), which lost 11.73% or 233.00 points to trade at 1753.00 in late trade. Coca Cola HBC AG (LON:CCH) declined 2.01% or 56.0 points to end at 2726.0 and WPP PLC (LON:WPP) shed 2.00% or 19.60 points to 961.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1085 to 1043 and 209 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.92% or 12.95 to $1413.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 3.80% or 2.20 to hit $60.03 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 3.83% or 2.46 to trade at $66.62 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.34% to 1.2508, while EUR/GBP rose 0.13% to 0.8999.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.39% at 96.713.
