Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Automobiles & Parts and Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.06%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Spirax-Sarco Engineering PLC (LON:SPX), which rose 3.45% or 380.0 points to trade at 11400.0 at the close. Segro Plc (LON:SGRO) added 2.00% or 18.00 points to end at 917.20 and J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY) was up 1.99% or 4.60 points to 235.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ITV PLC (LON:ITV), which lost 3.80% or 4.80 points to trade at 121.55 in late trade. British Land Company PLC (LON:BLND) declined 3.63% or 18.70 points to end at 496.50 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) shed 3.04% or 53.00 points to 1688.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1156 to 1090 and 231 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.38% or 6.55 to $1723.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.73% or 0.47 to hit $64.48 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.68% or 0.46 to trade at $67.98 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.23% to 1.3925, while EUR/GBP fell 0.02% to 0.8560.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 91.852.
