Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Mobile Telecommunications, Tobacco and Aerospace & Defense sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.06%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were WPP PLC (LON:WPP), which rose 4.26% or 33.29 points to trade at 815.49 at the close. AVEVA Group PLC (LON:AVV) added 3.84% or 122.0 points to end at 3302.0 and Intermediate Capital Group PLC (LON:ICP) was up 2.74% or 45.00 points to 1689.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD), which lost 4.01% or 5.25 points to trade at 125.53 in late trade. United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) declined 2.81% or 26.80 points to end at 926.00 and Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) shed 2.59% or 59.00 points to 2223.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1320 to 939 and 78 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.86% or 34.55 to $1893.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.75% or 0.36 to hit $48.18 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.59% or 0.30 to trade at $51.38 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.67% to 1.3598, while EUR/GBP fell 0.27% to 0.9002.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.61% at 89.812.
