Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Aerospace & Defense, Gas, Water & Multiutilities and Pharmaceuticals & Biotech sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.01%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG), which rose 2.25% or 9.90 points to trade at 449.40 at the close. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) added 1.85% or 63.00 points to end at 3475.00 and Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) was up 1.63% or 2.40 points to 149.30 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which lost 2.75% or 24.00 points to trade at 850.20 in late trade. Micro Focus International PLC (LON:MCRO) declined 2.05% or 43.00 points to end at 2055.50 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) shed 2.04% or 18.20 points to 874.80.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1182 to 969 and 213 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.32% or 4.55 to $1414.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 2.80% or 1.62 to hit $59.45 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 2.16% or 1.39 to trade at $65.67 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.02% to 1.2699, while EUR/GBP rose 0.09% to 0.8961.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 95.632.
