Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Food Producers, Mining and Food & Drug Retailers sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 fell 0.18%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Barclays (LONDON:BARC), which rose 2.67% or 6.65 points to trade at 255.45 at the close. Aberdeen Asset Management Plc (LONDON:ADN) added 2.34% or 10.10 points to end at 440.90 and Ashtead Group (LONDON:AHT) was up 1.96% or 21.00 points to 1094.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Randgold Resources (LONDON:RRS), which lost 4.32% or 240.00 points to trade at 5310.00 in late trade. Fresnillo Plc (LONDON:FRES) declined 4.12% or 37.00 points to end at 860.00 and Anglo American (LONDON:AAL) shed 2.26% or 26.50 points to 1145.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1038 to 993 and 394 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 2.46% or 31.00 to $1231.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude Oil for delivery in March rose 2.75% or 1.39 to hit $51.87 a barrel, while the March Brent Oil contract rose 2.73% or 1.54 to trade at $58.12 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.50% to 1.5250, while EUR/GBP fell 0.81% to 0.7427.
The US Dollar Index was up 1.21% at 94.80.
