Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Aerospace & Defense, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 4.79% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which rose 45.05% or 31.34 points to trade at 100.90 at the close. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) added 36.89% or 328.8 points to end at 1220.2 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) was up 34.10% or 181.60 points to 714.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 15.17% or 198.75 points to trade at 1111.25 in late trade. Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) declined 10.78% or 278.00 points to end at 2302.00 and B&M European Value Retail SA (LON:BMEB) shed 9.21% or 49.24 points to 485.36.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1701 to 647 and 44 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 5.05% or 98.50 to $1853.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 8.72% or 3.24 to hit $40.38 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 7.60% or 3.00 to trade at $42.45 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.18% to 1.3133, while EUR/GBP fell 0.34% to 0.8992.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.72% at 92.892.
