Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Automobiles & Parts, Travel & Leisure and Construction & Materials sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 3.48%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON), which rose 13.44% or 14.70 points to trade at 124.05 at the close. Tui AG (LON:TUIT) added 12.94% or 25.90 points to end at 226.00 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) was up 12.57% or 56.20 points to 503.20 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 7.27% or 58.80 points to trade at 749.60 in late trade. BAE Systems PLC (LON:BAES) declined 4.22% or 31.80 points to end at 722.60 and BP PLC (LON:BP) shed 2.22% or 8.45 points to 371.55.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1580 to 430 and 341 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 2.55% or 52.10 to $1,991.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 10.04% or 12.42 to hit $111.28 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 10.73% or 13.73 to trade at $114.25 a barrel.

GBP/USD was up 0.63% to 1.32, while EUR/GBP rose 1.06% to 0.84.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 1.15% at 97.94.
