Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Construction & Materials and Tobacco sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 3.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT), which rose 9.60% or 232.0 points to trade at 2649.0 at the close. Ferguson Plc (LON:FERG) added 8.08% or 488.0 points to end at 6526.0 and Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) was up 7.58% or 95.5 points to 1355.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Flutter Entertainment PLC (LON:FLTRF), which lost 2.77% or 300.0 points to trade at 10550.0 in late trade. Segro Plc (LON:SGRO) added 0.11% or 1.00 points to end at 881.00 and Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML) gained 0.26% or 6.0 points to 2283.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1712 to 517 and 131 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.54% or 9.25 to $1736.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 2.32% or 0.86 to hit $37.98 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 2.42% or 0.96 to trade at $40.68 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.19% to 1.2577, while EUR/GBP fell 0.31% to 0.8953.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.36% at 97.002.
