Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Mobile Telecommunications, Gas, Water & Multiutilities and Automobiles & Parts sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 2.99%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which rose 16.05% or 99.60 points to trade at 720.20 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) added 10.97% or 57.80 points to end at 584.80 and Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) was up 10.38% or 128.00 points to 1361.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Meggitt PLC (LON:MGGT), which lost 17.44% or 66.70 points to trade at 315.80 in late trade. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) declined 15.84% or 177.4 points to end at 942.6 and ITV PLC (LON:ITV) shed 12.64% or 9.46 points to 65.38.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1432 to 811 and 109 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 3.21% or 47.65 to $1534.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 2.90% or 0.84 to hit $28.16 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 3.23% or 0.97 to trade at $29.08 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 1.43% to 1.2090, while EUR/GBP fell 0.26% to 0.9089.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 1.66% at 99.780.
