Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Mining, Industrial Metals & Mining and Food & Drug Retailers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 2.75%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were GMK Norilskiy Nikel PAO DRC (LON:NKELyq), which rose 6.82% or 1.84 points to trade at 28.81 at the close. Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY) added 6.32% or 111.0 points to end at 1866.5 and NK Rosneft PAO DRC (LON:ROSNq) was up 5.47% or 0.39 points to 7.44 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT), which lost 4.36% or 238.0 points to trade at 5216.0 in late trade. Tui AG (LON:TUIT) declined 3.98% or 10.10 points to end at 243.90 and International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) shed 3.40% or 5.64 points to 160.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1102 to 835 and 461 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.62% or 29.45 to $1841.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.99% or 0.84 to hit $85.67 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.88% or 0.77 to trade at $88.28 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.27% to 1.3631, while EUR/GBP fell 0.07% to 0.8324.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.21% at 95.520.
