Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Construction & Materials, Oil & Gas Producers and Gas, Water & Multiutilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 2.39%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT), which rose 7.64% or 128.0 points to trade at 1803.5 at the close. Surgutneftegaz L (LON:SNGSyq) added 6.93% or 0.30 points to end at 4.60 and CRH PLC (LON:CRH) was up 6.70% or 144.0 points to 2292.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which lost 5.78% or 18.60 points to trade at 303.30 in late trade. BAE Systems PLC (LON:BAES) declined 4.53% or 24.20 points to end at 510.40 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) shed 3.97% or 24.20 points to 585.40.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1311 to 825 and 142 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 2.93% or 49.40 to $1737.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 27.83% or 3.22 to hit $14.79 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 7.97% or 1.54 to trade at $20.87 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.20% to 1.2317, while EUR/GBP fell 0.54% to 0.8781.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.16% at 100.532.
