Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Banking, Industrial Metals & Mining and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 1.86%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Meggitt PLC (LON:MGGT), which rose 7.41% or 29.00 points to trade at 420.40 at the close. Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) added 7.03% or 10.82 points to end at 164.77 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) was up 6.46% or 52.00 points to 857.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included AVEVA Group PLC (LON:AVV), which lost 5.63% or 191.1 points to trade at 3200.9 in late trade. Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) declined 4.74% or 123.50 points to end at 2484.50 and Avast PLC (LON:AVST) shed 4.41% or 22.40 points to 485.60.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1521 to 787 and 60 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.83% or 32.65 to $1813.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 1.94% or 0.88 to hit $44.46 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 1.23% or 0.59 to trade at $47.29 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.83% to 1.3431, while EUR/GBP rose 0.20% to 0.8970.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.62% at 91.287.
