Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.49%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ferguson Plc (LON:FERG), which rose 6.93% or 478.0 points to trade at 7378.0 at the close. Surgutneftegaz L (LON:SNGSyq) added 6.92% or 0.48 points to end at 7.42 and Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) was up 5.19% or 11.50 points to 233.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 2.77% or 17.80 points to trade at 624.20 in late trade. Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) declined 2.03% or 1.74 points to end at 83.94 and Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT) shed 1.12% or 29.0 points to 2565.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1516 to 601 and 728 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 1.76% or 27.80 to $1555.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.52% or 0.26 to hit $50.17 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.76% or 0.41 to trade at $54.62 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.35% to 1.3039, while EUR/GBP fell 0.45% to 0.8470.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 97.785.
