Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil & Gas Producers, Pharmaceuticals & Biotech and Gas, Water & Multiutilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.46%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO), which rose 6.66% or 24.10 points to trade at 386.00 at the close. BP PLC (LON:BP) added 5.92% or 18.10 points to end at 323.60 and United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) was up 5.50% or 49.40 points to 947.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON), which lost 17.61% or 18.70 points to trade at 87.50 in late trade. Meggitt PLC (LON:MGGT) declined 13.23% or 41.00 points to end at 269.00 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) shed 11.90% or 43.40 points to 321.30.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1125 to 1018 and 146 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.80% or 13.30 to $1640.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 5.35% or 1.15 to hit $20.36 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 6.23% or 1.74 to trade at $26.21 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.60% to 1.2381, while EUR/GBP fell 0.50% to 0.8900.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.78% at 99.308.
