Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.32%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which rose 7.85% or 62.80 points to trade at 863.20 at the close. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) added 6.97% or 109.20 points to end at 1675.40 and Capita PLC (LON:CPI) was up 6.24% or 6.45 points to 109.75 in late trade.
Biggest losers included GlaxoSmithKline PLC (LON:GSK), which lost 7.62% or 123.6 points to trade at 1498.0 in late trade. Kingfisher PLC (LON:KGF) declined 2.80% or 7.00 points to end at 243.00 and Hammerson PLC (LON:HMSO) shed 2.20% or 8.50 points to 377.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1316 to 816 and 297 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.09% or 13.40 to $1239.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 3.04% or 1.55 to hit $52.48 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 2.67% or 1.59 to trade at $61.05 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.00% to 1.2748, while EUR/GBP rose 0.45% to 0.8911.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.39% at 96.815.
