Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Media, Software & Computer Services and Support Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.30%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust PLC (LON:SMT), which rose 6.86% or 49.80 points to trade at 776.00 at the close. Abrdn PLC (LON:ABDN) added 5.10% or 7.60 points to end at 156.55 and Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV) was up 4.61% or 35.20 points to 798.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 5.67% or 41.20 points to trade at 685.60 in late trade. Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) declined 2.33% or 13.80 points to end at 578.20 and Shell PLC (LON:SHEL) shed 2.07% or 41.80 points to 1,974.20.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1138 to 705 and 427 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 1.59% or 28.00 to $1,735.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 1.51% or 1.50 to hit $98.00 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 1.91% or 1.96 to trade at $100.81 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.21% to 1.19, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.55% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.48% at 106.83.
